Linux user groups (LUGs): There's no central listing for them anymore seems like?

I think the Covid Pandemic did a lot of them in. We never had a solid group in this area. So haven't attended any.
These groups seem to come and go and keep a list up to date would be a problem.

One of the sites I host belongs to someone starting a LUG, now that I think of it.

I have no idea how well they're doing. I don't do things like monitor their sites or anything like that. I only respond for help and complaints for things like copyright. They have no complaints against them. So, I haven't even checked their domain in ages.
It's struggling along with 4 members. Only one or two show up for the meetings.

I'd say that's a start.

Every Friday, I operate a weekly thread on another site - one where we share music that we've created. There have been times when it was just me, and times when it'll get nearly 1000 comments. But, it's a bit lonely when it's just you - but you do it anyhow hoping that consistency and reliability mean something.

It has been a long time since it was just me. I've been doing it for more than five years now and have been able to at least start the thread. The times I've not been there someone else was able to run the thread for me.

I guess my point is a movie quote. "If you build it, they will come."

Hopefully...

By the way, I have been thinking about this. Tthis was a part of what I was referencing earlier:

Further, there's been some discussion in one of the Ubuntu IRC channels, albeit brief discussion.

I'm also curious as to why we don't embrace tech in this area. The LUGs don't have to meet in person for everything. We have acceptable video chat options, for example. Heck, assuming the end-user has multiple devices you can talk 'em through installing Linux via chat.

A weekly/bi-weekly type of online gathering that's open for the globe might be a positive thing. You can even have them aimed at local users. Inviting the entire global community isn't a requirement.
