Maybe you could also try chrome for windows through wine. If running a wine+windows browser+windows plugin doesn't work for you, you could install a lighter DE (when I use LXDE/openbox, almost everything runs smoother) or maybe a generally lighter distribution (like Manjaro), picking a lightweight DE, of course.
