Hi
I have a HP San that i have purchased ex enterprise decommissioned hardware. the san is a 3par 7200 running a version and i am trying to put it to use in the lab. im an individual and not really in the position to pay a support contract to get it running with hp so I am digging to try and make it work
It appears to be running an operating system derived from Debian 7.6
I need to reset the root password to be able to access it and have no way of accessing the console or anything other than physically removing and mounting the controller ssd into my pc and access the files controller os files that way.
so i have had a look at the files under /etc/ and made the following changes.
I have changed the /etc/shadow file to update the line for root to contain the generated password using openssl
this didnt work
i then removed the x from the passwd file beside root to allow login without a password then modified the sshd_config file to allow root login and then changed it to allow blank passwords. however this didnt work either
each time i make a change i have to power up the unit boot from this disk in the controller test then remove and put it back into the disk enclosure in my pc to change it so testing is rather time consuming.
As this is a mounted filesystem seperate to my desktop os (ubuntu) i cant use the passwd command to change this. There is also no way for me to do this from the hardware itself.
Is there another way to do this without booting the os or some other files i need to change?
the reason i need to get into root is so that i can set the 3paradm password using the hp provided command that needs to be done as an elevated user from the CLI once this is done root will be secured again.
I have tried the HP forum yes however they give me the basics that i have already done and then said contact hp support (product is EOL so hp will not help)
