Hi All
I am a student who just bought a refurbished hp nc6120. I know its really old (made in 2005, I think) but this is the only one I can afford right now. I am really new to Linux but would like to try using one as this laptop uses XP whose support I learn will expire in a few months.Below are the specs and THANKS a LOT in advance.

HP Compaq nc6120 Manufacturer Part # PT596AA#ABA
OS: Windows XP Pro
Processor: Intel Pentium M 750 1.86 GHz, Centrino
Chipset: Mobile Intel 915GM Express
Memory: 2GB (installed), DDR SDRAM, PC2700, 333 MHz
Hard Drive: 60 GB, 5400 rpm
Display Type: 15" TFT active matrix SXGA+ (1400 x 1050)
Resolution: 1400 x 1050
Graphics: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 with up to 128MB Shared System Memory
WLAN: Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG 802.11b/g
Audio: ADI AC '97 CODEC, Integrated 16-bit Sound Blaster Pro-compatible audio
Drive: DVD-CD drive

Thanks again and God Bless you all!

With 2Gb of RAM you should be able to run anything.

The "best" distro is the one you like and which suits your computer, not one I or anyone else tells you.

Look at Distrowatch which gives *some* idea of popularity. The table on the right marked "Page Ranking Hits". http://distrowatch.com/

Look at "50 best Linux distros: find the best one for you" http://m.techradar.com/news/software/operating-systems/best-linux-distro-five-we-recommend-1090058

Try LiveCDs which will leave your Hard Drive completely untouched - unless you install. http://livecdlist.com/operating-system/linux

P.S. I like Dell C400 which are P3s , at least 10 years old...
