Hello guys again, I am trying to install Arch Linux Arm using proot-distro

Remember we are swimming in uncharted waters together because this is on a smart tv

I installed or tried to install all dependencies for the Arch Install script. I took a picture of the screen to show you the output of the error in termux

I entered sudo archinstall and archinstall and i get this error, it seems to be a persmission call error of some kind all over the place.

The arch install script is suppost to run on all architectures

The photo kinda sucks so you will have to zoom in to the photo to read it.

This is on a Smart Android TV Android 11.

I am trying to run linux using proot distro on a smart tv and i am trying to install the system. Please review the attached photo. I sure hope that it is legible.

Well i just discovered something and i kinda feel stupid now.

According to some online reading and googling, Proot-distro installs the root file system. So i already have the root file system installed so i don't need to run a script to install it.

So forgive me for being ignorant.

But now i have more questions, What packages are not, key word, not, not, not in the root file system of Arch Linux Arm?

Again what packages are not in the root filesystem of Arch Linux.

So what packages do i need to install to get the system up in running? Cause I am ignorant and don't fully understand what a root file system is.

It downloaded in like 30-60 seconds and it took up hardly any space on my EMMC flash. So it can't contain much unless the system is really small.

I have tried to look up that answer and not found much of anything.

Another question that i have is do i need grub or a boot partition or something like that?

I am confused now on how to get the system up in running...So any help would be much appreciated.

So just to say again...Proot-distro doesn not need to be installed, it just automatically installs the root file system of the selected distro, And i guess it does not need to have a boot... and it does not require you to partition disk so im kind confused as to what i still need to do to get the system runing.

I guess i configure the network,clock,region,mirrors,package manager,essential packages etc.

But i still don't know witch packages that i need. I have done some reading on proot-distro and archlinux and i have found myself still missing something.

Arch wiki doesn't have a section about prooting so that really sucks. Anyway any help would be much appreciated

My biggest fear is not having the correct graphics driver if i install a desktop enviroment.

I want to install lxde desktop and all dependencies or lxqt witch ever would work best. Alright thanks for reading.

for that screenshot - no idea but it looks like a bunch of python errors (the files are .py)

does the distro have to be arch? I seem to remember (maybe wrong) that your TV is arm based? why not use distro specifically for that - like raspberry pi os?

Thank you for your reply
Yeah i keep getting errors all over the place. I get lamelock not supported by kernel and sudo isn't behaving properly anymore lol. Arch does work though im going to stick with Arch for a while before i move on and try something else.

Arch is hard to learn i think. I managed to install in into a virtual machine twice for practice but the proot-distro is different.

I am currently working on getting a vnc viewer installed so i can start the desktop. I don't know how to start the desktop or anything like that. I guess you run it from vnc viewer.

I can't run makepkg as root and when i create another user and try to add them to sudoers it doesn't work properly. I tried to add user to wheel group and make wheel group a sudoer but for some reason it doesn't work. It keeps saying that the user isn't in the sudoers file even though i added them. I used nano to edit the sudoers file maybe i corrupted it or something.

I am trying to install yay so i can run AUR packages but every time i try to run makepkg -si command it runs fine then asked for the password that i enter correctly but still says user is not a sudoer. It keeps trying to download a dependency package and needs root priveliage to do it but when i try to it fails for some reason so i can't get yay installed right now.

I need to be able to run makepkg -si as root it seems because sudo isn't working properly and it always asks me for root privilages to install that dependency.

I got tigervnc installed but i can't get that to work either. Maybe im not doing something right or proot doesn't work all that well or something.

Tomorrow i will start fresh and see if i can make some progress. I installed all the major packages already that i need to run the desktop environment.

But if i really can't get it up and running over time i will try a different os. The TV is Armv7L.

Arch is giving me packages for Armv7h witch work. I really wish i had a Armv8 TV then i would able to run a much easier distro.

But looking for TV hardware specs is a mystery ususally. Some major brands use there own processors with funky names like crystal processor, Ai processor, UHD processor etc Hard to know who is using arm technology or not. Funny thing trying to make a tv a computer. But it has been fun. I have been reading for days now on the subject of linux trying to learn linux.

Anyway i i have to get some sleep thanks again
