With Debian is always advisable to install from the non-free unofficial distributions, as most of the network cards have proprietary modules and hence are not supported by the main ISO.
And just to add a little endorsement, I used to have a devil of a time trying to get Debian to recognise my wifi, for a couple of years it stopped me from using it.
Then a few years ago, one of our former Moderators, @arochester , mentioned the non-free option, I went to it and I've never looked back.
