This should be simple to fix. "Unit tor.service could not be found." is all I get. I'm in root so I know I can't run tor. I downloaded though in root anyway. I only can run it as my other user. I'm just trying to run tor through the terminal so I can be more anonymous. Help please.

I ran " apt-get update". Then I ran "apt-get install tor torbrowser-launcher " Even though I'm in root and can't search any website using the tor browser I can still run it in the background to stay anonymous. All my traffic will go through tor. Your connection will be a little slow because it is tor. If you want to use tor to search the internet or dark web or something you have to run it as another user. Not root. It won't let you.

I'm moving this to Linux Security.
