HI there! (i,m new to Linux.org so i might've done something wrong posting this) btw this is a Linux appreciation post not a help post.
So way back in march 2024 I was bored and i was just walking around my house and then I remembered that i had an old taken apart computer in my garage somewhere, so i was like: "i'm going to put this together and then i get to have a computer!" (or something like that) so i spent 2 days putting it together(i was'nt very good at technology then) and then it would'nt boot, and then for some reason i decided to try and install windows 2000 because i had a disc ( ¯\(ツ)/¯) but after 2 days of it not working, someone in my family said i could try linux but they didnt really know what it was, so i spent a while realizing that there are multiple "versions" (distros) so i found a lighter one which was Lubuntu 20.04. so i tried installing it but it didnt work, and later i realized that the drive was dead(too old and left in garage) so i just ran everything off of a 256 gb usb 2.0 (whitch was very slow as you can imagine) and then i found i had a few more old computers in there that i put linux on, and that brings us to a month or two later, when i decided i wanted to make a hackintosh but thats not linux so we'll skip past that. and at this point i had accumulated a few more computers that were more powerful that could run a new "version" called ubuntu that was apparently "the distro" and with ubuntu i learned "how to linux" with learning what the terminal "was" and also that i could install programs with it,(side note i thought you had to download the .deb file and then sudo apt install steam and it would use that(i didnt know what a repo was) and then i l learned what a "desktop enviorment" was and how you could change it, so i installed gnome 3 on linux mint 20.04 and made it look "hacky" with janky transparency themes in gnome, and then i bricked that linux install but we're not talking about that. then i just started to get more familer with all of linux, and i also got so so much better at technology during this period, before i started linux i barely knew what a file or filesystem was, and now i can create a text file in the terminl and use it as a notepad (touch note.txt, then nano note.txt) then i want to try something harder so i try endevour os and i really liked it!
...for about 2 weeks anyway... then i ran out of space and linux died. so i couldnt use that computer until i reinstalled, and guess what computer is writing this!(its that one) so anyway now i am with several(like 10) running linux plus my main laptop(2011 macbook air with hyprland btw)
so linux + gnu... thank you for being so fun to use and for making my life more interesting
PS. i hope i didnt make this too long or it just being like a story about computers and not linux. and btw im still young so thats why it sounds like it was written by a 13 year old and i also use arch btw
Thanks for reading this far!(unless you just scrolled to the end so i unthank you) (also linux has taught me about online prvacy so i use tor and floorp with startpage)
anyway Thanks For Reading!

Welcome to the forums, this will probably be moved to members introductions when admin come online

Along your Linux journey there is a lot to learn, but always remember Linux is organic and constantly changing and growing, so even when you reach my age you will still be learning,

when it comes to security, It doesn't matter which OS or what apps you have installed, the weakest point in any system is between the seat back and keypad, train yourself not to use dubious sites and not to open every link your friends may send you.

You have started your journey, the learning curve has just begun, sit back kick off your shoes, grab a drink, and enjoy the ride.

I moved this to Member Introductions as that's really what it is and it's not a question about Desktop Environments.

Welcome aboard.

Welcome aboard!

Keep enjoying linux and keep learning about linux and by the time your as old as the rest of us you'll surely be... well... old. And you'll also have gained some expertise in a -bunch- of computer related endeavors.

That your "main machine" is a 2011 <anything> implies that you have a good idea of what "obsolete" means (or at least what it -doesn't- mean).

Having a bunch of computers laying around with linux on them also sounds familiar.

If you're going to write a long post like that (like I never do), throw in some
line breaks or even

pairs of line breaks. It's so much easier on the eye.
