This is a neat program that you can use to repair laptops.
I've seen Louis Rossman (PC Repair Man in NY) use it on You Tube.

I know what you mean. I'd rather pay a tech to fix my laptop than to mess with all that stuff. It looks pretty interesting. A long time ago, I was into electronics for electronic's sake - like I once built my own synthesizer of sorts. Electronics have advanced and I have not, which is kinda unfortunate because there are so many great resources out there these days.
Once upon a time, you could take a PCB out of your TV and smash it over your knee. With some time and a whole lot of jumpers (and a lovely trip to Radio Shack), I could fix it for you. These days? I wouldn't even know where to begin.
So, while it looks interesting, there's nothing in it for me. I'm not going to kid myself. I've long since joined the 'replace it crowd' rather than the 'fix it crowd'.
Amusingly, I am discussing this very thing on another site - but in an automotive context. No, I am not taking my alternator in to be fixed. I'm just going to buy a new one. If the ECU goes bad, I'm not even going to open it up to look for a short, I'm just going to replace it. Odds are good that I'm not even going to do it myself.
