After going crazy trying to open MS internet shortcuts in Linux Mint, I found a way. Install Wine and Gecko2, possibly a couple of others listed on Software Manager. Set the properties on the shortcut, which probably were on your Windows intallation originally and copied to Linux, to open with "Wine Windows program loader". I did this on two installations of Mint and on Ubuntu as well, on two computers, and it is opening MS urls from Windows installations on the same computers. Works on Chromium and Firefox and probably others as well.
