Hello!
You don't know me, but i need some help.
I am a new linux user who knows quite a bit about it
I have knowledge of BIOS and Installing Distros.
Ive tried many distros before, from linux mint, to elementary os.
This time, i tried using kali linux. I installed it using the 64 bit installer and when done, It booted into gnu grub version 2.02.

Ive never seen this screen before and do not know how to get out.
Im using an Acer Computer and i have no other computers so i cant just burn another distro to boot up on my pc.

Im in quite the pickle and need help fast.
If you can help me it would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Also, i haven't been able to use my pc for a week now because of this
Its a acer laptop

And I can't see anyone i know for help because of this pandemic

This looks like a good place to start:

Exactly what happens after boot:

1. Acer logo appears
2. Getting prompted with: "Default Boot device Missing or Boot failed. Insert recovery media and hit any key. Then select boot manager to choose a new boot device or to boot recovery media.
3. Sent to bios where i select my Hard drive with kali installed ("Unknown Device: (WDC WD5000LPVX-22VOTTO)")
* This is because I messed up my previous installation with elemetary os but i know how to boot up my kali.

4. I get prompted with:

" GNU GRUB version 2.02
Minimal Bash-like line editing is supported. For the first word, tab lists possible command completions. Anywhere else Tab lists possible device or file completeions.

grub>_
"
(Note that i have the Acer aspire es1-512, specs can be looked up online, i have no other computer to burn another image to my usb and i ruined my elementary os install which ruined my default boot settings and yeahhh.)

If you could help with default bootloader too after this that would help alot aswell haha

Ok so your looking at grub>_

While at that prompt type this one line at a time and press Enter after each entry.

grub rescue> set root=(hd0,2)/boot
grub rescue> insmod linux
grub rescue> linux (hd0,2)/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-33-generic
grub rescue> initrd (hd0,2)/boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-33-generic
grub rescue> boot

After you boot into Kali Linux open the terminal and run:

sudo update-grub

That's for a host machine.

Hold on tho I have to find the instructions for the prompt that your at.
You're at grub> not grub rescue like I thought.

Since you have grub> that means that you are in a rescue shell.
When you just have
grub>: This is the screen mode you see when GRUB has found everything except the configurationn file. This file probably will be grub.conf.

Do you have the Kali Linux CD/DVD?

No, this was booted/installed with a USB using newest kali linux installer iso file (2020.1)

Type the word 'set' and press Enter.
I'm having you type the word set at the prompt so I can find out what the prefix is to your partition.

What does it return?

If i answer anything wrongly or in a diffrent way then your would like me to

Its because its 1:50am almost 2am and i never slept lmao

Got it. I understand.

Type the word set and press Enter.

Next to "prefix" it says: prefix=(hd0,gpt1)/boot/grub
