Hi Everybody

I have a very simple question, which has happen to laptop. Just a short while a go the Linux distro I use FerenOS updated to Kernel 5.8.0-38-genric. When this happen my laptop a Dell Latitude E6420 sound card stop working. I don't know why this has happen. But when I boot the system with Kernel 5.4.0-62-genric sound work correct. Can it be that 5.8.0 have lost The driver for ones sound card? If so, is there anyway to get sound to work on Dell Latitude E6420? Or should use another distro?

It may be that a driver was dropped. There have been quite a few driver issues on AskUbuntu since the release of the 5.8.x kernel. For example, they dropped the ball with a bunch of Broadcom drivers and the likes. A quick search of the site for 'sound' (sorted by newest) brings up a bunch of issues. So...

Before going too far, run this from the terminal:

pavucontrol

Look around in there to see if anything is muted, set to a dummy device, or other things that stand out.

Let's see where we stand with that.
