Hi guys, I'm new to linux as in I just installed it on a virtual machine just an hour ago.
I'm trying to install a software called Stacks, I have no access to Mac OS & never have I used linux so I'm having a hard time getting through with the first step.

Before explaining everything I want to say I've searched for solutions for a while now but I feel my lack of understanding of linux prevents me from solving anything.

I followed the steps mentioned here but when trying to use the 'make' command or the other expended options offered there, I get an error saying "No rule to make target 'install'. stop."

Furthermore, I have no idea what it should look like but after using "./configure" it seems like an error regarding the C++ compiler came up and I guess it might be related to what I mentioned earlier:
"checking whether the C++ compiler works... no
configure: error: in '/home/dor/stacks-2.54':
configure: error: C++ compiler cannot create executables"

I attached the text from the config.log file created to this post.

I'd appreciate any attempt to help with this!
