I hacked my way though a minecraft java server install. Doing so I have screwed up ubuntu! My problems were because java 16 has been removed. I now have java 17 running, but ubuntu is still trying to install 16.
ssh into my ubuntu server I get error: "openjdk command not found" I don't know were this is coming from or how to fix it.
Help please
Thanks

open Synaptic Package Manager and search for openjdk-17-jdk see if it is installed or not

thanks for the reply, strange, synaptic show's it not installed, but I installed it command line.
java -version.......Strike that! I ran synaptic on my desktop, not on my server. See below

openjdk version "17.0.1" 2021-10-19
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 17.0.1+12-39)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 17.0.1+12-39, mixed mode, sharing)

you need to install it from Synaptic - openjdk-17-jdk - from what you have is only a partial install - the one in Synaptic will grab everything else you need like - openjdk headless - openjdk jre - open jre hedless and several other parts
