I own an Auto repair business, been open for about 30 year's and been using Windows. I would love to dump windows but my management software I have not been able to get to run on Linux. Can anyone recommend an auto repair shop software that would ?
I have reinstalled WINE and have tried Crossover. I am running Linux MintTake another look at the installing of wine.
I do not use it (i have no need for it) but I do know it is a "fussy" installation.
one little thing out of place and it just doesnt work (bit like a gearbox)
Which Linux are you running?
Thanks, installing WINE 6.0 now. Will let you know. I am going to try both my existing software and another win software demo I got..If anything will get wine running this will
Wine 6.0 stable was released 2 days ago as the new major release to run Windows applications in Linux, Mac OS, and BSD. Now you can install it in Ubuntu 18.04, Ubuntu 20.04, and Ubuntu 20.10 via th…ubuntuhandbook.org
it runs in 32 bit architecture.....weird but true.
Just follow the terminal commands.
Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu 20.4
Use copy and paste to "write" the commands
If your program wont run in wine, you may have to either dual boot...windows with linux (with a good size ssd to hold them both, or maybe try the link from @Tharindu .... https://sourceforge.net/software/product/ARI-Auto-Repair-Invoicing/
Then I guess your best bet is to try those softwares I mentioned above. I also tried to use Wine few different times, but it didn't work for me eitherOK well that didn't work. Tried install twice, all seemed go smooth with no errors. I right click on the win .exe file I want to install, choose to open with wine program loader, the little wheel spins but nothing happens.
Hello,G'day @JimK and welcome to linux.org
I'll run a few ideas past you, which may or may not bear fruit.
First up, what I tell people who may be under a false impression of our status within the Linux Community
Just in case of any misapprehension on your part, we are not an official arm nor organ of Linux, just scored the dot org name - we are manned by volunteer staff who share a love of Linux and have varying skills in various departments.
So unless we have some auto repair people within our ranks, all we can give you is opinions and suggestions.
It is not clear from your first Post whether you are using a commercially produced software suite, or whether you had consultants come in, identify your needs, and design some sort of end-user applications for you, which run on Windows.
If it is the former, let us know the name and version, but if it is the latter, you may not have much luck with us.
