Hello

I am trying to configure samba whereas when i access the4 machine from another machine be it windows or whatever it will not present the folders 1st but ask for the authentication logon prompt.

Currently when i click a Linux machine it shows the folders but then ask for authentication after trying to access the folder.

I think this thread is most suited for the 'networking' sub-forum, so I've moved it there.

It's a bit of an iffy one, but I think that's the most appropriate sub-forum for this post.

You, the OP, don't really need to worry. We're a fairly small forum. Pretty much everyone will see your post and anyone who can help isn't going to be too concerned about the sub-forum this is posted in. I just keep things tidy.

It's no big deal. I just try to make sure that things are in the most appropriate sub-forum. I'm not one of the crazy power-hungry mods you may be used to seeing elsewhere. I'm pretty much just a glorified janitor and, well, there isn't even all that much glory.

Have you tried entering the username and password for that machine?

Are you trying to access a windows drive from Linux, or access a Linux drive from Windows?

A mixture of both. For example if I logon to a Windows PC the authentication prompt. But in Linux it will show the folders and only the authentication prompt when you click on a folder. In network

You don't need Samba to share a Linux drive. Only NFS.

This has nothing to do with a drive. This is all about networking. This is about samba.

See the attached example

In this example whenever I click on the machine it instantly comes up with a uthentication prompt.

However in this example on my Linux machine that runs samba. Whenever I click on the machine it doesn't instantly come up with a authentication prompt. Instead it will show the folders that I have shared and/or the drives that I have shared it doesn't matter if they are NTFS ext4 etc.

It is only after I click to access one of those drives that the authentication prompt comes up

As I said how do I configure samba to come up with a authentication prompt and not show what I have shared prior to whatever is requesting to be authenticated.
