(SOLVED) HP Laptop cannot see ethernet connection

also.....copy and paste this into terminal and put the result in your next reply

Code:
rfkill list

Is there a button on your laptop that turns flight mode on and off ?

I think it likely to be a small key/button...easy to overlook

there’s probably a physical switch (often an Fn + F* key combination, perhaps labeled something like ‘Airplane Mode’)

at this point I will go for connection fault,
try
1] re-boot router
2]change the cable connection to a spare socket on the Router
3]check the cable twixt router and computer terminal, [ [try a different cable preferably a quality all copper one not the cheap aluminium core coper coated ones]
4] do not let the cable be stretched between router and computer,
5] if any of the plugs feel loose/floppy at either end, then change the cable, or get the motherboard terminal replaced [not a DIY job]

Does the ethernet cable plug into a modem/router....have you turned that thing off...waited 30 seconds and then tried again ?
Yes, tried that.
My PC with Mint and my Laptop both work off the one modem and both at the same time - PC via ethernet, Laptop via Wifi. Have a spare port and cable on the modem that could connect to the laptop if the laptop could see it. And yes, have swapped ports, swapped cables, etc so all the modem ports and all the cables are good to go.

I have just gone back and read your first post... "". I have a security code for my modem"".......what is that about?.....and can you turn it off?

I just read your post above this one as well....obviously you have tried the various swaps involving the ports and cables to the modem...(I still wonder if the security code has any bearing)....but if the code has no bearing then the fault has to be with the laptop itself.

There is a wifi button immediately beside F12...? press it once. Did that turn airplane mode off ?

'Morning Condo. Got up this morning and saw your post above. The security code is for access to the modem. Its a password/security code that most modems have. It 's a basic security feature and must be turned on for a modem to work. Airplane mode F12 turns the modem off. The modem needs to be on otherwise even WiFi won't work. My WiFi works. Have plugged and unplugged the ethernet cable. No other cables are attached. Cheers

Your Ethernet is behaving as if it is in Airplane mode.

Check that out. Disable the code. Press F12 a few times......fiddle around.

Anyone around you, got a router you can plug into with an ethernet cable ?.....If the laptop still wont work that rules out the router at your place, and puts the spotlight definitevly on the pc
