I found this question & answer over on Distrowatch.com rather interesting.
Just about everything performed in the terminal happens so fast I never gave it much thought because by the time I thought about it - it was already done!

Terminal velocity

I have almost always just used the default terminal that come with whatever distro I'm using at the moment. For me it's been gnome terminal in Mint. Just works ok I don't think that I've ever noticed one being that much faster than another. But interesting link thanks.

They say alacritty is one of the faster ones since it's written in rust, I will try alacritty sometime when I'm bored but so far I've juse preferred xfce4-terminal because it being simple and I don't usually tweak my terminal much so I have no desire configuring a terminal using a config file.

I’ve been using suckless software’s st for a number of years. I haven’t noticed any performance issues. But at the same time, I haven’t profiled it against any other terminals either!

Hmm... I should do a review of Terminator one of these days. It's not as well known as it could be.

One of my favorites. You may also like Terminator.
I have used terminator in the past but now days I use tmux when needing multiple windows or tabs.

For a while, I used like i3 WM and had no real desktop. I think I used tmux with that - but don't quote me on this. I'm not even sure if it was i3. I tried it for a month or so, at the suggestion of a 'power user'.
