Splintered Thread from___Drive Failure Imminent_"Last Option"

I am beginning to get a really bad feeling about that drive
Me too.

Two Lenovo's both have issues with the hard drive. I've been trying to find some information about this specific model to find know issues. I started first seraching the laptop itself. Now I'm searching the model number of drive.

ST1000LM035-1RK172 (LFM1)

Sea Gate has diagnostic tools with a download for Linux. It uses the terminal to install it. I didn't delve through that because I haven't used it much to install anything. And I also don't know if I can install it at all since I'm using a USB drive for live LM.

Open Software manager....and type in :

or use the seatools one....whichever you like/whichever one ends up working

Personally, I think the drive is stuffed.

I haven't used Sea Tools for a long time, but it may help you to get that drive back. The one @Condobloke suggested may give you some options too.

I know a command line trick or two that might also knock the drive into behaving correctly.... or they could end up putting the final nail in the coffin. Let me know if you want to try anything like that.... but the other tools would be good to try first, as well as Gparted.

I'm seriously considering looking for an OLD pc. The problem there is that my monitor only uses high speed HDMI cables or ( I can't remember what the cable is called). LG strongly discourages using adapters.

I have other components, somewhere. With everything going on in my personal life and the mess #4 left behind, just finding all of them is a challenge.

I would be trying your luck on the other Lenovo

I know it gave a 'this hard drive is about to die (or whatever it said)....but you will not know until you try it.

I'm using Last Option. The other one is acting up in a lot of ways. Seems to me that the hard drive is very close to dead.

So what do I do the Smartcontrol?

I'm going to try to disable "Secure Boot".

I can't do that either.
It's password protected.
I don't know the password.
I know I could reset, or take away the requirement for a password by removing and then replacing the CMOS.
I can't figure out how to open up the laptop. I think it takes a special bit. I may have one of those in my tool set for electric stuff. I don't think so.
I don't see a single way to open up this laptop.

I don't think I want to mess with either one of these Lenovo's. I had trouble getting into the boot menu to load live LM. I'm afraid to turn anything off. Who knows what would happen if I do. As of right now, I have no other way of getting online. I have to be able to get online for my job.

I am beside myself with aggravation. I have had too many things happen over the last 2 years to have to deal with computer issues now.

I can certainly understand that !
A couple of random questions.

Have either, or both...these Lenovos ever had encryption on them

Is there any possibility that RAID is enabled in bios ?

Last Option, the one I'm using now was #4's laptop. He probably never heard of encryption, much less know what it is and even less than that he wouldn't use something like that because "that would never happen".

On the other hand, I'm not sure about his step-father. Possibly. He had ALL of his financial information stored on it. I didn't know him very well, but there was one thing that makes me either question his ethics or think he must be an idiot.
He was convicted of white collar crimes. He worked for a company as a stock broker when the market nearly crashed back in '08. He said he didn't know anything was illegal. If he did know what was actually going he probably would have encrypted it. He didn't strike me a as a stupid man.

Possibly.

However, EUFI is password protected on Last Option. I can't disable it because I don't see any way to open it up. I can't get to that battery. I don't want to tear it up trying to figure it out.

Let me sign into my Google account so I can show you pictures.

As of now, I'm not sure if I can get into EUFI on the other laptop.
