Splintered Thread from___Drive Failure Imminent_"Last Option"

Linux distributions generally have a "shim" signed. The shim is a small boot loader that simply boots the Linux distributions main GRUB boot loader. The Microsoft-signed shim checks to ensure it's booting a boot loader signed by the Linux distribution, and then the Linux distribution boots normally.

I'm getting PO'd now!!

One of my bigger cats and some others keep sitting between me and my monitor!
I keep having to start over... Reading that is!
Hold one

Most Linux distros have the shim built in, so that they can be installed even with a Windows and Secure Boot enabled.

The shim was authored by Matthew Garrett who is Linus' right-hand man.

I want to make sure this is what you're looking for....

1708235798986.png

Just to stick my node into the middle of this......

Windows recovery files are still on the HDD

That would concern me...depending on what position it is placed in on the drive

and....in your screenshot from a couple of pages back......did you click on the down arrow...as I have marked with a red arrow.....
The drive you arte looking for in gparted may be there

Suggested repair: ______________________________________________________________

The default repair of the Boot-Repair utility would not act on the boot.

I'm going to paste the code generated by Boot repair. I didn't try to make any changes.

@Condobloke

Now exactly why I posted all that code generated by Boot Repair I don't know.

I guess it just seemed like if I did you might think I'm smart or something...???

Sherri, press

1

and then see if that line appears with {KMGTP}

I know you're smart, don't need to think it

1708236576828.png

type in

+100G

and press enter

That last one may take some time.

@Condobloke

I remember now why I pasted that code. If you look at it, you'll see Microsoft all over the place, including the USB I'm using right now for live LM

BUT....

Earlier to I formatted a different USB drive using GParted. There's nothing about Microsoft on the drvie at all.

That's why I was wondering about formatting the hard drive using GParted.

Actually, it may not.

When it finishes, press

w

and enter to write to disk
