Sunday/Funday:
so I have an older laptop with an older nvdia gpu that i use as a test bench to distro hop - last week i was playing around with Fedora, this week decided to try Kde neon to see if it had the new version of plasma. lo and behold, it seems that the ssd died (failing smart tests, then warning popups when I did manage to the live image running - figured, I've got nothing else to do "what's the worst that could happen?"). so I tossed another ssd in there & wouldn't you know it? same damn thing.
tore the laptop apart - nothing seemed loose and it didn't smell like the magic smoke had leaked out anywhere... and I couldn't find my sata to usb adapter to test the ssd's on another computer (it's around here... somewhere...) so I dug through my parts bit and found an unopened hgst spinner disk - I figured, if ssd's are failing, and hdd should fail too. the hdd's got to be 10+ years old or more, even if it's "new old stock". annnnd..... no smart errors! it took the Kde neon image like a champ.
now I need to dig up the sata to usb tester & test all of my ssd's in the junk drawer. I wonder how slow this hdd is going to be lol.
