This is about the panel (taskbar?) at the bottom of the screen

Setting up/installing the applets may cure whatever ills it still suffers from.

I note you have updates available....a good idea to install those. Being a new install they may have input to your situation

They may need to right click on the row of icons, select applet preferences, configure, and enable dragging.

Applet preferences?

Oh, I think I see what you're doing. Don't click in a blank spot. Click on an icon that is in that panel. It looks like you're clicking to the right or left. Mouse-over one of the icons and right click on that.

Does that get you there?

Gotcha !

The update you see is for DELL - which is working great and that particular update was done. My issues are with the Lenovo behavior NOT the Dell.

Does that mean that you've enabled dragging and now ha a panel that works for you>

It looked like they were best responding to you, so I was trying to help you help them - but it looks like it may be solved. I literally can't tell based on their most recent posts.

I did not do it - it was already set when I went to look at it.

I'm not quite sure what to make of your past two posts but I'm trying to make it less confusing for you.

I'll also mention that if you right click on a running application's panel icon and pin that, it will look different. If this is not resolved, make sure you have no more 'pinned' applications. If you right click on said applications panel notification icon and you see 'unpin' in there, make sure to select that.

it usually is......by default. At least it is in all the Linux Mint varieties I have here

Where are you up to with the Lenovo ?

Would it make things clearer to right click the icons you do not want there and then put back the ones you do want ?
Drag and drop the menu icon to the corner would be a start.

Bring me up to date

I removed the Firefox icon from the Launch (correct term?) area. I now have L-R Menu File Text Terminal. If I run Firefox I get the icon with a blue underline at the left of the center panel, along with any other executed apps - like Thunderbird.

What I can not do is put a Firefox icon in the launch area. It will not work properly.

Thanks.

What happens when you Left-click the main menu on the taskbar > Mouse down to the Internet submenu > Right-click on Firefox > and select Add to taskbar in the little menu window that then appears?

That worked on most of the Linux desktops I've used.

That "seems" to work as designed. That is, the icon is in fact put into the "Launch" area. I can click and drag to make it immediately to the right of the menu or for that matter in between any of the other "Launch" icons.

It's the actual functions that happen when I hit the Firefox icon from the desktop, favorites, or via the menu/Internet route that seem to be out of whack. The icon in the launch area gets blue underlined. (I believe that icon is overlay-ed but have no way to prove it). At this point there should be a Firefox icon left aligned in the CENTER section of the panel and blue underlined. Which indicates an active app. Mouse over and a miniature popup of a current Firefox panel is then displayed.
