It's pretty straightforward. It comes from an old post on StackExchange and I kinda want to get the article more exposure - plus it seemed like a relaxing article to write at the time. Optical media is fading out of use, with many devices no longer including any. Sure, some of us will keep using it for years to come, but the heyday of optical media has passed.
Heck, even many (most?) modern cars don't even come with a CD player.
