Most folks set their timezone during installation and never think about it again. I find this most useful when I use a VPS that installed via image file and has the timezone set for the region or the likes. Other than that, it's probably not something you'll deal with - unless you are in the habit of frequently moving about and needing to change the timezone due to that.


It was a little late getting published. Instead of scheduling it for 13:30, I scheduled it for 16:30. I noticed around 14:30, which is when I went to change the status and tell the system to publish the article. Ah well...

Very handy to know...in Linux Mint I sometimes go to Date and Time Settings and change Country and City to somewhere else.

I usually just make sure to set it properly during installation.

Some installers, like that used by Ubuntu, will try to set it automatically - if you're connected to the 'net. It uses geolocation and tries to set the timezone with that.
