You might think that Ubuntu ships with Vim by default because, you know, you can use Vim by default. But that's only half the story, or half the Vim if you'd prefer.

The 'vim-tiny' only has a subset of the options 'vim' has. If you type 'vim --version' into your terminal, it'll show you what features it has enabled. They have a "+" in front of them, where the - is for features you don't have.

To be fair, there's still more stuff you can install to increase the number of Vim features - like the ability to process Lua isn't normally in the full version. Don't quote me on this, but I think you can pick these (some/many of these, perhaps?) things if you compile it yourself.
