I love using Thunderbird with gmail.....becasue it upsets gmail for a start (keeps google on their toes)....and because it works like a charm. I had a problem with it a few days ago where the 'delete' button was taking forever to delete emails. I made a new profile for Thunderbird and all is new again.
Thunderbird simply downloaded all my mail from the gmail server again......and all is good.
