In the past, we have had horrible response time and permissions themselves when we have our Windows home directories nfs mounted to our Red Hat Linux box. Our programmers use there Windows home to program but it can take a really long time to copy files back and forth between the two machine. Another caveat, our other directories are also nfs mounted from a NetApp box. I want to know a better way to do this. Please help.

Transfer speed depends on the bottleneck, so max monitor bandwidth supported from netapp to red hat box then to programmers windows pc/laptop to determine it.
