USB 5.0 GHz adapter

I recently installed a USB 5.0 adapter on my laptop. (Sudo WIFI AC600) It worked fine for a couple of weeks, and now refused to work at all.

I am running ubuntu 20.04
did your kernel recently upgrade from 5.4 to 5.8?
This is why I do NOT have "auto updating" running and active.
Perhaps this issue has nothing to do with an update but I have seen many, many problems associated with an update. Especially a kernel update.
Ubuntu is getting very pushy and obtrusive about pushing updates out to users.
I prefer to check each update and see what is changed and WHY it is being updated before applying the update.
