Solved Very Slow Boot Up, Trouble Opening Apps

My PC boots up very slowly. For the last couple of days, it takes forever for apps to load. I haven't messed with it because I've been so busy, but today it caused problems during an interview for a job.

I'm sharing a video from my Google Drive that illustrates what the problems are. From the time I turn on the computer to getting onto the internet takes close to 4 minutes (I tried to add some entertainment to ward off boredom). There have been a couple of times when the apps took MUCH longer to open. I expect this kind of thing with the Giant, but not Linux.

Error codes are flashed on 3 separate screens, VERY FAST. I managed to capture the first 2. Even at the slowest speed using VLC, the errors flash too fast for me to capture the 3rd one.

I'm attaching screen shots of the error codes I managed to capture. The video quality is a bit grainy. My LG monitor was damaged! I'm using a smart TV for now.

If you watch the video, keep in mind that I would never beat my cats!

BIOS errors on start up and lag on start up, lag time for apps to open.

What apps have you installed lately.....is there a time that the pc began to boot slowly?...apps installed since then.

AS far as I can see the first pic is of no consequence...txt.....disabled by bios....I get that on mine

The second pic...ae errors....I get those too......they flash by in an instant and account for zero

click on menu...type in Startup Applications....take a screenshot of whatever is there and post it back here

Is this pc still running on a hdd....or a ssd ?.....

I'm using an HDD

*I opened the terminal and typed in "startup applications"! Then I spent about 5 minutes trying to find a command for the terminal before telling it didn't work!

Personally, I think it might be a bit premature to assume it's the HDD. I have a second one I can use if something is wrong with this one.

Have you installed any type of AV on the pc?

No. I DID install VLM and Avidemux AFTER taking the video I posted. I was trying to get better image quality for the video and pics

What apps have you installed lately.....

Prior to today

NordVPN- a long time ago and it didn't seem to have any effect on performance

Recently installed within the last two weeks, ALL from the repository

• Zoom
• Font selection
• What'sApp (Open source for Linux)
• BleachBit
  • Have NOT used "As Root"
  • ONLY run "Autoclean"
• Font Selection

An SSD would make a big different especially for Boot times and every thing else...been there done that.

My Boot time is a fraction of what it was with a HDD and with an SSD...everything (apps browsers etc) opens in a flash...I would never go back to HDDs.

If you have a Timeshift snapshot before you ran that....go back to it. It can do no harm, and may be informative for you

I thought about this... I think I will. But right now I need to watch the news. Stuff is going on here and my favorite news anchor is on! I'll be back in about an hour after I use Timeshift.

I restored to a SnapShot I took before leaving Texas. I think I might know why I was having problems...

When I got my tower out of storage, it hadn't been used for 2+ months. The first thing I did after getting everything set up was to start downloading and installing updates. Updates were interrupted. My monitor was damaged on the way up here. The screen went totally white. I had no idea and no way of finding out how many updates were installed, if they were installed... I didn't know anything. I shut down my tower.

Exactly one week ago, I finally got my hands on something that passes for a decent monitor. I checked the updates. There were installation issues because of the interruption. (I posted about that problem in a different thread). Things were cleaned up using commands in the terminal.

I used the last SnapShot taken before I got my tower back, before leaving Texas. The updates weren't interrupted this time. Everything went fine. I didn't have to use the terminal this time to clean anything up.

Everything is working fine again.
