Virtual Machine

So I've been having all sorts of problem running windows and Ubuntu on separate drives. I nowhere near figure out what the core problem is but I was wondering something. If I were to use a virtual machine, have Ubuntu be my core drive and the virtual machine be windows, Could i install software on the virtual machine. For instance could i hook my printer and programs that can only be run on windows ? And still have Ubuntu as my main OS. And sorry ahead of time if this is a dumb question, i just haven't had much experience with virtual machine but i'm hoping it will let me run Ubuntu without really installing windows on my machine.

It would all work well. However, I do not know how to configure or manage printing. I use Oracle's VirtualBox as my virtual machine , but I do not recall seeing printing options.

Generally, Windows and Ubuntu have problems together especially with Windows 8. A virtual machine or choosing one OS and removing the other are your only two options.
