I recently install 18.2 an older desktop
Works great, fast.
However, I cannot get the monitor to "wake-up" on it's own with movement of the mouse. How do I fix this

Hi Doug, and welcome to the site! I would first try to go to the Power Management settings and say "Never" for both putting the computer to sleep and putting the display to sleep. (One or the other may fix the problem by itself too.)

You can still use the Screensaver settings for a blank screen (or others) so the monitor doesn't stay on all the time.

Cheers

Thanks! atanere, That did exaxtly what you said. Screen saver activates. But it's interesting. My other MS desktop goes into a "power save" mode and comes on with mouse movement or touching keyboard. Not quite the same. But thanks this is better

My monitor also goes to sleep and to wake it I always hit the CRTL key on the keyboard to wake it up.

Is that the only key that will work?

Power management can be funny sometimes... especially suspend or hibernate. I'm not a fan of those myself, but other folks have had good luck and like them. I'm glad the simple fix worked for you, but there may be better fixes available that would still employ the power saving feature too.

Cheers

No, that is not the only key that will work. I use this key so that if the active window happened to be waiting for a key press I don't accidentally have it continue without me knowing it.

Some monitors will shut themselves off when the computer goes to sleep. I have two new ones that did that to me when I upgraded to 18.3 the other day. I couldn't wake the monitors back up to save my life. I even hit "Reset" on the computer. No monitors. Then I got smart and turned the monitors on. :(
