Is artificial intelligence something really special and new or is it just a really, really big computer with super speed and all the accumulated knowledge of mankind?
We are currently in the process of installing AI in ALL organizations, governments and companies to take over the work of people and the truth is that the common people do not even know what it is or how it works. Fact is, it does not possess wisdom, common sense, emotion, empathy or any thing else that makes for safe decision making.
I also would like to know what these much talked about data centers are actually used for since all governments and businesses already have every piece of information possibly available about us. And the fact that they need an entire nuclear power plant to run them tells me that there is something really bad afoot.

From what I have seen so far they are not intelligent, just over grown screen scrapers with some extra coding, their answers are not always relevant or accurate,
Artificial ,, Means not real,or Fake
Intelligence is the ability to learn to understand, and make judgements based on reasoning a machine cannot reason as it can only run programs

their answers are not always relevant or accurate,

I'd say that's pretty human of them.

Anyhow, it depends on how you define AI. Large language models have been around for quite a while but we now have the compute horsepower to use them. This iteration of AI can be handy for a number of tasks.

AI is a lie. mostly it relies on internet and accumulating queries to give you what the programmer thought you wanted. Most times for me it is wrong. very very very wrong. It may be artificial but intelligent it is very much not. Just another thing to sell stuff.

@sofasurfer :-

The one thing I take exception to is that which is referred-to in your second sentence:-

....to take over the work of people.....

.....which boils down to one thing; companies/organizations have spotted another chance to save money, cut down on their admin costs & boost profits further. But what about the humans who have been 'displaced'? If they can't find another job elsewhere - and the job market is NOT a nice place to be ATM by all accounts - what the hell are they supposed to live on? How do they keep a roof over their heads.....feed themselves and their families.....keep clothes on their backs.....etc, etc??

Companies and organizations don't give a s**t. All they care about is their bottom line.....

.....and so-called "artificial intelligence" is just another "fad". Give it 10-15 years, it'll have morphed into something even more ridiculous (and perhaps dangerous).

AI is an incredibly powerful tool, but it is not a substitute for human judgment or wisdom. Its deployment in critical areas should be balanced with human oversight, and ethical considerations should guide its use. Data centers, while essential to the functioning of modern AI and the digital world, raise concerns about privacy, environmental impact, and power concentration. As these technologies evolve, greater transparency and public understanding will be key to ensuring they are used responsibly.

Reasons not to use ChatGPT

ChatGPT is not "intelligence", so please don't call it "AI".
I define "intelligence" as being capable of knowing or understanding,at least within some domain. ChatGPT cannot know or understandanything, so it is not intelligence. It does not know what itsoutput means. It has no idea that words can mean anything.

The same applies to many other "generative systems", for the samereasons

The widespread public error of attributing intelligence to thosesystems leads millions of people to a misplaced trust for them. Please join me in spreading the word that people should not trustsystems that mindlessly play with words to be correct in what thosewords mean.

Another reason to reject ChatGPT in particular is that users cannotget a copy of it. It is unreleased software -- users cannot get evenan executable to run, let alone the source code. The only way to useit is by talking to a server which keeps users at arm's length.

Doing your own computer via software on someone else's serverinherently trashes users' freedom.

It already has. As a soon-to-be-published novelist, this really p___es me off: I search for KDP formatting tutorials, I see YT videos advertising "Tutorial: Make 5k a days with AI and KDP", "How to write books with AI", etc. Ugh. Amazon, like most have cracked down on this, but ugh! Not that humans are much more original either with every second AAA film and game today being a sequel or reboot. Worst still is I saw (morbid curiosity beat me) a tutorial on creating a "kid's show" purely with AI. Wrote the script, generated video, generated speech... though it sounded creepy AF, like little-girl-staring-at-you-holding-an-axe creepy. Anyhoo, as humans are wont to do, there is another space it occupies. If you frequent certain places online you may see NSFW adverts and gone are the days advertising P___Hub. Today its AI Girlfriend, AI s chat, AI s doll. So we've pretty much reached ridiculous and we're wetting our feet in dangerous.

I'd still like to know what the data centers are about. What information does the government NOT already have that requires them to spend another half a trillion dollars ($500,000,000,000) on data centers and reactivate a nuclear power plant to run them.
We've got some real bad stuff in our future.

Lucy is artificial intellegance!

AI is a tool for fast collection of relevant existing info according to needs, in big part peer reviewed works, it does not produce new knowledge but it can summarize knowledge and articulate it in seconds. A work that a non expert in a field with old methods would need months to collect and articulate or even years. Nothing to worry about for the future of humanity but some jobs will be lost

Much more often the hackers attacks are powered by AI.

"Generative AI-based attacks are cyber threats that use AI models capable of creating content, code, or strategies autonomously to execute precise, scalable, and highly adaptive attacks.

What it does:

  • Automate phishing attacks with personalized, high-volume emails that are harder to distinguish from legitimate ones.
  • Create deepfakes for identity theft, fraud, and bypassing authentication systems.
  • Adapt malware in real-time to avoid detection, making it harder for security systems to respond effectively.
  • Scale attacks quickly with AI-based bots that can overwhelm a system or network faster than traditional DDoS methods.
  • Manipulate training data to mislead machine learning models, leading to system vulnerabilities.

  • Enable large-scale campaigns by automating the generation of unique attack vectors for massive reach.
  • Erode trust by mimicking legitimate content to exploit vulnerabilities in digital interactions.

Generative AI shifts the balance in cyber warfare by making sophisticated attacks more accessible and effective. It’s no longer a matter of skilled hackers versus defenders—it’s about who controls the most advanced tools"

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on artificial intelligence. but my thoughts about "AI", that I agree that while AI has advanced significantly, it lacks the human qualities essential for sound decision-making. Your concerns about data centers and their implications are valid, and it’s crucial for the public to understand these technologies and their potential impact and one should also learn how to use it correctly.

He is a pain to watch but he is a good source of info for what is going on with normal people (not Linux users, smartphone owners). He say now they will have an AI companion in their pockets WTF

Collecting every bit of information around the world has a problem, along with useful to them information, they collect also a lot of crap. AI will help them pinpoint what's interesting in all that mess, for example the passwords of the encrypted files in your hard drive along with the files... Now that's interesting. And guess what... You will pay extra for it because it's the latest model!

Some content was removed for political content. This is not the forum for that sort of stuff.

I did misfire and grabbed one by mistake, but that one was restored before anyone would have time to notice. ;-)
