What would you all recommend as a good OS option on a low end 7"google tablet?

This is a low end one and it has Honeycomb but it cannot handle it all that well! So what would be a basic one to run without many problems? Thanks in advance
PS it is my 6 yr old sons play tablet

I would recommend Android 4.x. You may be thinking "But I said Honeycomb did not work well". Well, Honeycomb (Android 3.x) is unstable. Without knowing the technical specs of the device, I cannot make a wise recommendation.
