What's your opinion about Linus Torvalds?

So he is not a lefty snowflake, and I quite agree with his statement """the most important part of open source is that people are allowed to do what they are good at" and "all that [diversity] stuff is just details and not really important.""" In far too many companies and particularly governments, there are far too many people doing jobs they are not qualified or experienced to do [and this applies to all genders]
Personal example 30 yrs ago I employed a new rep, it was a female, [very unusual in my industry] not the best looking, she was fairly knowable and eager to learn she was also openly gay [also unusual for the times] She got on well with all the customers from the specialist [expensive] architects I dealt with down to the roughest site navvy, and was extremely successful,
About the same time, some of my suppliers started employing female Reps, but oh so different, slender very pretty, skirts up to their armpits, they would have easily got a job for BA or Emirates airways as cabin crew, ask them a technical question or to sort out a complaint, and they did not have a clue where to start, why were these companies employing Bimbo's? First to meet the equal opportunity regulations employing a minimum percentage across the company, and second they thought that a pretty girl would be more successful than a qualified man in getting orders from older mail buyers and specifiers, The company sales directors were most put out when I told them it's no use sending that rep in again, and I will only deal with ones who know the technicalities of their product and usage.
Don't get me wrong, I don't care what gender anyone is as long as they are competent, which is basically what Linus is saying

Moved to off-topic.

This thread looks more like OP wants to proselytize more than anything else.

You just move the Mr Linux to off topic in a Linux forum... You are the moderator you know better. I just want to see if anyone else finds Torvalds rude. The other day I watched this video:
And I wonder if anyone finds it funny and if he answered the question

You are the moderator you know better.

It's not a support request, nor is it news. It's a baited question seeking opinions. It belongs in off topic. Actually, it belongs locked, but I was being nice to you.

Personally I don't care about technology and the kernel, I care about me, and will materialize this when Hurd is ready.
I really don't care that Linus doesn't care about me. He's created two of the most used pieces of software in the world, the Linux kernel and git. He's a programmer and probably a genius as in intellect. I've read that most geniuses are on the border of being insane and other quirks. He's might not be the best with people but he's a programmer who loves loves what he does and he's really good at it. I don't think any opensource coder actually cares about you and me personally they only care that their software is used and appreciated. Yes you can do feature requests but that's not caring personally, and feature requests as in requests for drivers on the Linux kernel can be done as well.

Hurd will never be ready, also you have nothing to say against Richard Stallman he's a bit of an odd character as well but just like Linus Torvalds a genius probably. Why don't you just switched to a Bsd if you don't care about technology and seem to have a hate towards Linus since he doesn't care about you or that's the impression you are giving. There are plenty of other people that don't care about you, it's the people that do care about you that count.

Lots of people don't care about me, but I don't care about them either. As for Torvalds, I use his products in blind, that's why I care what kind of person he is, because I can't understand his work, I can only judge the person, and the more I hear him talk the less I trust him. I may try BSD because HURD will not be ready for a long time as it seems

EDIT: I like Richard Stallman as odd as he is

I don't let the opinions of people I don't know bother me that much.

I appreciate him bringing the kernel to us, and his role as kernel gatekeeper now. Other than that I really don't keep up with what he says or does.

To me, that arstechnica story is too yellow for anyone that knew of him from before.

He's been telling the world that he wasn't a people's person for 30 years, since his very first public interview. And people keeps poking his eyes and asking BUT WHY. People keeps trying to strech him beyond his abilities, judging his (self-aware and self-declared) inability to socialise. Trying to stretch him to areas he's not capable at.

I think it's time to leave the man alone. Just leave people doing what they do best; don't try to make heroes out of everyone. Out of millions of people in open source, there should be some other people willing to take on those aspects.

When someone knows his limitations, just let him be. It's not like he's pontificating on social media how everyone else should be positioned at things he doesn't care about. It's not like he's denying the diversity issues, or opposing the idea of diversity: he's been saying for 30 years such things are neither his focus nor his strength. The kernel develpers scene is diverse? Fine. Is it not diverse? Well, as long as the kernel works, he's fine with it.

And honestly, being almost 20 years in the IT industry and knowing how far one can be into "not be the people's person", I'd rather prefer to have someone capable and a people's person to care about the diversity, and not anyone that walks by --as they can do much more harm than good.
