We are going a bit off track to food, I just used that anology as in easy way to understand the comparison I was trying to make. The whole point try something until you find a desktop environment that you like and works for you, so don't choose Mocha Almond Fudge as your favorite as cream just because it's Linus's favorite ice cream flavor as well.
Well, he invited me over for dinner one time and served me this great wine, it's my favorite now. By the way, the possessive of Linus is Linus' NOT Linus's or Linus's's's's' FINI

There's no salvaging this thread anyhow. OP has all the answers they're gonna get.

I will say it's an improvement. A year or so ago, this question would have prompted responses where people just listed their favorite distros - and then derailed into semantics arguing. We're getting better!

Ubuntu still has 'official flavors' for the distros that are within the official family, like Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Kubuntu, etc...
I was just about to say could we get back to the OP's question's and is there any further input, because I am getting confused.

We could, but probably won't. I mean, it has run its course. Everyone who had an opinion has likely shared their opinion. I'd consider locking it, but it'd just pop up in another thread. At least here it's contained digression.

Eh, question answered, and it's all fun banter at this point. No need to lock, IMO.

I find it helps keep the digression in one place. Y'all are creatures of habit.

Personally I recommend Ubuntu. I have had zero problems with it and everything just works right out of the box. You're going to have to get a pen drive if you don't have a dvd burner. The only network install that i am aware of is Debian, and that's a little complicated.

Good Luck,
