does cinnamon and other DE's have this same issue of the maill apps and calendar apps run in the backround? I really like KDE and want to keep it- but this seems not very smart, to have them running in the backround for no reason. any ideas/tips on how to fix this?

I use Thunderbird with many email accounts and literally tens of thousands of emails. (I suck at cleaning up my inbox and I have email going back for decades.)

I also use the calendar, which I keep sync'ed all over the place.

It's using 400 MB of RAM on Lubuntu at this moment. It's using slightly more on a Mint system.

Probably better asked on the KDE forums, since their developers are active on there too?
