It may be a good time to make one.....It is Debian 11 and I don't have backup no...
That command I entered above (sudo apt-get install synaptic.) does not install or reinstall, because Synaptic cannot be removed.
The only way to completely remove and reinstall is to do that with the entire OS
That command will hopefully find there are some 'bits' missing
It certainly will not do any harm. I ran on my own pc (LM21.3) with no harmful effect
Whichever decision you make, I would definitely put a backup in place, saved to an external drive.
