I also had this problem, the reason is lack of knowledge of the formatting tool.. Here I found a solution: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1132828/unmount-drive-from-emergency-mode The quick answer: edit the file /etc/fstab and remove the entries which belongs to the USB disc.
