I actually found that stopping the old array unbusy the device to be added to new array.
Made a typo and added the old device to wrong md45 . ended up with 1 device array and no way to access md45. So I have a real RAID 5 to add the old device too....It all takes its sweet time.
But I am getting there
I am little confused with "file system " - I start with plain partition and it gets formatted as "ext4" .When I run "--create" it informs me about some other file system , but creates without a hitch.
The "gparted" will show "linux-raid" as file system.
