Your Linux backup and disaster recovery solution

Just one thread to discuss backup tools and solutions.

That'd be expecting users to search before they post. That's not going to happen. Some folks do search first but I strongly suspect (given the many repeated topics) that few people do so.

We'd have fewer new topics if people did that. So, in a way, it's probably okay that they don't.

If only forums had as powerful and as easy search as google.

If I really want to search forums for something (I mean any forums) then I go to google and search for instance:
whatever site:someforum.org and will get superior results in much less time than using forum search tools.

Few forums however from what I saw provide google search function instead of custom made search, but that's very rare case.

I find it works well IF you know the terms you're looking for. Otherwise, search is hard. There's a reason that there aren't many general search engines. But, if you search for 'backup', you'll get results for the various other threads. You can also filter the search for topics only, which would help show more threads. If you know the author, you can also use that as a filter. I've done that before to find previous threads.

But, yes, the search is very rudimentary. Still, it works well enough for basic needs.

'Kayyy... So; by this comment, I'm assuming that continuous, never-ending large numbers of new posts are seen as a "good thing", yes?

Perhaps I'm thick.....but do me a favour and explain the logic behind this, would ya? Couldn't possibly have anything to do with the site's SEO rating, could it?

The Puppy Forum's search tool is about as useful as any other phpBB forum. In other words, it's NOT. To work around this, our Admin, rockedge has set up a custom Google search that always prioritises and points straight back to the Forums rather than anywhere else. Most of us use this instead....given that it simultaneously searches not only the current 'new' Forum but also the 1,000,000 + posts of the 'old' one.

Clonezilla backups, usually two backups. Both archived and encrypted, then uploaded to a paid cloud service. The same goes about the OS, the entire music collection, the game, even the porn.
That way if I lose something, I can always recover it in the matter of minutes.

They're good for traffic and ad revenue. They also keep us busy, answering the same questions over and over again - all while waiting for something unique and posing a challenge.

Heck, there are entire classes of questions that I ignore because I know someone will answer them - simply because history tells me that they have. If people actually did use the search engine, we'd have fewer questions and less activity.

So, there's a bonus to it.

Besides, all those different terms are good search engine fodder. They help us rank well.
