4G And 5G Information

$55.00 for 150GB's? That's 1/2 of the grocery bill for me!

How much notice did your carrier give you?

It was about a month I think...I didn't think that smartphone was only 2G...but back then many people like me suddenly had a brick for a phone.

A little more time IMO would have been nice.
That way folks could have more time to check out the specs of the new phone.

New phone arrival!
The Moto G Stylus really rocks!;)

I'm currently the proud owner of an iPhone 13, which comes with 5G connectivity. I've had this device for quite a while now.

Cool!

Was finding a protective case hard to fin locally?

Very nice...Android phones are the best.

Yes, they are. My old Android LG Rebel 2 lasted 6 years!:D

Took the old one apart yesterday removed the battery, removed the micro sd card and retired it to it's original box.
Not sure if Ubuntu Touch will work on it or not?

I've owned a range of Samsung Galaxy phones, from the Galaxy S2 up to the S9. However, the last model I truly enjoyed was the Galaxy S3. In my observation, later models seemed to come increasingly packed with bloatware, which not only took up storage space but also seemed to slow down the device. In terms of value for money, I felt other factors such as speed and functionality didn't quite match up.

My last Android device was the ASUS ROG Phone 2. Unfortunately, its internal components failed, forcing me to look for a new phone. I ended up with the iPhone 13. While I've never been an ardent Apple fan, I can recognize and appreciate a product that delivers superior performance.

For gaming, I wouldn't choose the iPhone; I believe my ASUS phone would outperform it in that regard. However, when it comes to call quality, the iPhone 13 stands out, and it doesn't feel cluttered with bloatware like my previous Android devices did. Additionally, I find the operating system to be faster and smoother on the iPhone.

So, in my experience, both Android and iPhone excel in different areas. No single phone is universally the best; each has its own strengths and weaknesses. It's all about finding the right balance that suits your specific needs and preferences.

The Samsung 2G was a Galaxy S duos...I can still use it as an mp3 player but can use my 5G phone for that too...this phone can use up to a 1TB sd card.

The other day my download speed was 130 mbps but today it's only 40 mbps it must have been a good day.

I did learn having a 5G phone doesn't mean you automatically get connected to the 5G network either.

The newer Samsung phones are faster now and an sd card of up to 1TB...space isn't a problem. My phone has 6GB of Ram and is fast..wasn't that expensive compared to other Samsung phones as I wait till the price drops...phone is a year old now but works just fine.

Is it true that the Samsung phones don't come with a charger?

No it's not...that's apple.

My phone is the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G and comes with a charger.

I could have saved money and got a 4G phone because the 4G network will be around for a long time. Technology has certainly changed...my Galaxy S duos had only 4GB of space with an sd card up to 32GB...768MB of Ram and a 4'' display...my how times have changed.

Thanks for clarifying that!-:)
Your Samsung Galaxy is almost $400.00 here in my state. Too pricey for my wallet--

It was much more here in Australia on sale...if you think that's expensive have a look at Samsung phones available now...are you sitting down...

What's the point of having this technology when most people can't afford it and you only get a 2 year warranty...that's one more year than apple which are much more expensive. Once the warranty is up you don't get updates either...as I said I could have got a cheaper phone and still be on the same network I'm on now...stupid me.

I usually run stuff until they are broken. With computers, "broken" could mean "no longer secure." I prefer to keep stuff working that others would add to the landfill. It means not always having the latest, most fashionable things and ignoring style trends. That's okay.

iPhones and Chargers:

Our family is nearing an inflection point for personal cellphones. Several phones in our family are approaching the end of support for security updates. (Examples: iPhone 6s and iPhone 7)

-> I plan to wait on upgrading the iPhones until Apple evolves to the required new European USB-C charging standard next year. Apple announced that they will comply with the regulation. "Next year" means 2024, but I do not know when during the year that Apple is required to comply.

One family member wants to swap their iPhone for Android this time around, so there is no issue around timing for them.

iPhone 7)
I have just got a re-furbished I7, and its running ios 15.7 [may 2023] so it should be good for a few more years yet [Apple support is usually 5 years]

My hunch is that Apple will stop releasing security updates for our iPhone 7's before the end of the year.

iOS 15 is getting security updates only. iOS 16 was announced in June 2022 and released in September 2022. If Apple follows their usual pattern, they may announce "iOS 17" (?) at their Developer's Conference next month (June 2023), release it to the general public in Fall 2023, and drop all support and updates for iOS 15 in that instant.
