i didn't want to disrupt op's thread with something this off-topic, but wanted to say a quick thanks for the heads-up about the xorg log possibly being in a different directory. in my pop os 22.04 vm, it only exists in ~/.local/share/xorg. nothing from xorg in /var/log. if i hadn't read your post, i would be scratching my head for a while i think.
