Anyone switching back to Windows 11 for this awesome "feature"?

Hell no! My next computer will be Linux. I litrally joined this forum becuase I am bascially a lowkey Windows a refugee at this point, I am already very fed up with Windows antics but the final pisstake was the A.I fetish train. I have a problem though because I use specialised software that is Windows locked.

Wish there was an entire subsection dedicated to 3D artists and animators wanting to switch to Linux because I really want to meet others trying to do the same. I want to know which distro is better and whatever happens I will have to run Wine.

Where there's a will, there's a way

I got upgraded to a Windows 11 laptop at work a while back. I disabled co-pilot via group policy as soon as it arrived. Just as I disabled Cortana before that. I have no use for it whatsoever!

I'm not even trusting that, as I got burned by Windows 10 silently re-enabling the setting to back up my sensitive documents to the cloud, AFTER I turned off that service.

Next thing I know, I have my school, financial, and medical records saved on my OneDrive account - and easily accessible to anyone who politely asks Microsoft to drop their trousers (you know: for CONVENIENCE)!

(And, before anyone asks: "I specifically sought out, and deactivated that 'feature'.")

After learning that, I switched to Linux, and didn't look back.

F Microsoft, and their anti-privacy shills - I'm not wasting hard-earned money on a product that is actively working against me!

What I'm curious about is the NPU: I am not a fan of having a system outfitted with that, and will be looking for companies selling desk/laptops WITHOUT that "feature."

I searched for a way to completely disable co-pilot as soon as it arrived via an update.
I eventually disabled it via group policy.

I have no idea whether copilot interacts with, or affects Linux installations.

If you install Linux as your only OS, i don’t think co-pilot will be able to affect it at all because it’s merely a component of the windows install. As soon as the partition containing windows is wiped and overwritten - Windows is gone.

So if you get a Windows 11 machine and install Linux over the top as the sole OS on the machine, co-Pilot should be completely removed along with Windows.

Dual boot - I have no idea!
Using WSL - it’s more likely that copilot will have hooks into / access to WSL. So it may affect Linux distros running in WSL. But I honestly have no idea.

I only grudgingly use Windows on the PCs that my employer issues me with, for work.
But completely disabling co-pilot doesn’t seem to have had any negative consequences for me so far.

I’ve also blocked the ads in the Lock Screen and the menus via group policy. I can’t remember exactly where I found the instructions, but again - it worked flawlessly.

I honestly don’t know what M$ are trying to do with co-pilot. I don’t want or need an AI to monitor my activity, suggest things, or hold my hand whilst I’m using my PC. It’s like clippy or Cortana all over again, but even more intrusive.

Maybe less tech savvy users will like it and use it, but it’s not for me. I don’t want it, or need it on any of the machines I work with.

At best, Co-pilot is yet another annoyance. At worst, it is more built-in malware/spyware and an extra security risk/attack vector. M$ software always has more holes in it than Swiss cheese.

On Windows, I always uninstall or disable components/services that I don’t want or need. And I try to use as much free/libre/open source software as I can, because I ultimately trust free-software more than I trust M$’s buggy bloatware.

same here, if I didnt put it there, i dont want it and I dont want Big A.I watching everything I do. I hate this stupid A.I goldrush If anyone here bothers with Twatter any more since Elon Musk rat got his grubby paws on it, the stuff that tech bros are saying is something short of delusional, devoid of any sense of reality, I actually think they are thick, they speak like anime villains, its just pathetic, they sound like they are 12 years old, any tech CEO who speaks like that, I dont touch their stuff, I dont support their product. Yesterday I found about about Open A.I spouting stupid shit like "A.I will kill creative jobs that should never have existed in the first place"

https://futurism.com/the-byte/openai-exec-ai-creative-jobs-shouldnt-exist

Ok then so if people stop writing art and music these losers dont even have a product.

Shut my Open A.I Account down there and then, I am sick of people like this. They are 12 year old psycotic trolls in adult bodies. They see people as nothing more then a bunch wild pigs to be exploited, spied on and destroyed if they feel like it, I think its a fetish to these creatures. They can f**k off. If people do not vote with their feet I fear we will sleepwalk into an evil dystopia.

In the meantime people will moan "oh it does not affect me, I am okay jack, get a real job, ha ha ha deal with it bro" - To that I say if it effects your neighbour today, it will effect you tomorrow and when you have to lick your cyber overlords arse to claim UBI you will not be laughing, you are one of the people that let it happen.

Microsoft is also sending money to trumped up loons like this which is one of the other reasons I want to run for the Linux hills
