I have seen a documentary or three about Finnish jails. Unless you're a hardcore criminal, it's more like a college campus (especially when contrasted against other jails and prisons).
I wouldn't want to go to one, but I'd rather go to a Finnish prison than go to one in South Africa or Peru.
Heck, I'd rather go to a Finnish prison than almost any American prison. We do have a cushy prison in Connecticut. It's a federal joint for white-collar criminals. I wouldn't want to go there, but it'd be better than some.
Ideally, I'll never see the inside of another detention facility. (I used to work in one, that wasn't all that bad.)
I actually have a more-than-passing interest in incarceration due to having worked in the field while enlisted. I was what civilians would call a 'transportation officer'. Except I was not an officer.
I moved detainees from one location to another, and usually back again. It was very different than a civilian facility. I applied to work at a civilian facility back in my college days, and declined their offer of employment for reasons too long (and off topic) to get into.
Your Australian prisons are pretty tame as well, but I think I'd still prefer Finland.
If you want to learn about some of the crappy conditions, try a YouTube video for Lurigancho Prison (it has another name, but it escapes me at the moment) in Lima, Peru. I've visited random Americans there, dropping off a few dollars and a few books in English for them while I was in the area.
That's a scary place - and you just get let into the facility to visit. There's no visiting room or anything. You just get, quite literally, let into the prison.
Key point: DO NOT GO TO PRISON!
There is no prison I'd "like" to go to. Just that some are significantly better than others.
Also, I think Finns are pretty much all 6' or taller. They're a pretty tall people.
