Maine gets hit with them, but it's usually just a tropical storm by the time it gets here - and it's very unlikely to go inland as far as I'm inland.

As for the Floridians, I hope any of our linux.org Floridians are safe and sound, hopefully able to get out before the storm hit. There's going to be a whole lot of property damage with this one and it's gonna take a while to put things back together.

On the 'good' side, if you want to make some money, head to Florida in the next day or two and I am 99% certain you can get all the employment you can handle, even if it's just cutting trees and chipping them. They'll pay you handsomely and you'll be able to get a ton of overtime.

That's not 'good' for the folks in the path of Ian, but it's good if you're needing gainful employment right now. Plan on at least six months. (I have not one but two friends who do this, though they're more highly qualified than tree chippers.)

While empathy for the losses suffered by those hit by Ian in Florida and elsewhere is only human, I defer to Albert Einstein regarding peoples'penchant to build houses on land three feet above sea level in hurricane country --

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
