Issues tethering a device

The server got no wifi card so I tethered a device. It is found hardware-wise and configured as a wired device but no wifi networks appear.
lspci/lsub and stuff all show it. Just tried everything I could for two hours to no avail. The wpa scan shows no networks. After starting the service with the correct network SSIDf and the password. I did ifconfig <network> up all to no avail.
IP link shows the state UNKNOWN.
I did manage to tether my phone but not Netgear AXE3000 wifi usb adapter.
This is on RHEL 8.9. I am beginning to think it's lacking proper drivers for it.

I will redo this on Ubuntu. Since RHEL is more or less a data center and I wonder if they just did not include the correct drivers. Just a complete exercise in frustration.

if you liked the RHEL you should move to Fedora. It is the same thing but has all the drivers etc. However did you check if the wifi card was supported? I use panda wireless adapters, they work out of the box.
