[SOLVED] My computer freezes when I use a USB drive boot and I can't reinstall Ubuntu

Hello,

I have a Clevo computer which was working fine with Ubuntu 20.04. And then it started to freeze all the time, also on the log in page and even once or twice in the UEFI.
So I sent the computer back to the manufacturer, they changed the SSD and motherboard and extensively tested with Windows and say there is no more problems now. They say the UEFI is up to date
I reset the UEFI/BIOS to default, disabled Secure Boot, disabled Fast Boot, disabled TPM (but couldn't disable Legacy mode : not found)

But I still have the same problems ! Freezing during USB boot with 20.04.3 and 21.10 and 16.04.6 and Zorin after ~30s (unless safe recovery mode).
I used 2 USB drives and different USB ports. I made the USB drives with the Ubuntu utility.

I get these error messages :

My config : Clevo Initia Series NL4x_NL5xLU (NL51LU), Intel i5-1035G1, 2x8GB Corsair 2133MHz SODIMM DDR4, Integrated Intel® HD Graphics, 1TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA 120 2.5" SSD
 


Normally you can disable acpi and tpm (trusted platform) in the UEFI/BIOS.
You might try disabling these if you can. Likely disable secure boot also.
 
What is the graphics card in that machine?
 
If you can get it to boot.. from a terminal run inxi -Fnxz [inxispace-Fnxz] and post the report back here

this indicates to me the Driver may be missing

this looks like the wrong driver

we have several threads about this one, search RTL8111 should bring up umpteen posts

as for the intel drivers that is not usually a problem
 
According to what I can find on your model # and Mother board. You should have Intel I915 graphics driver which does not seem to be loading. Try going to a terminal and issuing this command
Sass: 
sudo apt install --reinstall xserver-xorg-video-intel
Reboot, then see what happens.
(Note: by the way inxi no longer comes default in ubuntu releases so you have to install it.)

Yep one of the first things I install on new ubuntu install besides synaptic which they also have taken out.

The same on OpenSuSE, Fedora and Redhat now also.
I notice the 3.x versions are now written in perl.
Some vendors have security concerns about perl. I use lshw.

Your first post in this thread says "[ 3.534459] platform idma64.0: failed to claim resource 0: [mem 0x00000800-0x000000fff] " I assume this was after the laptop was returned and "mended" by the manufacturer. .

Is the laptop still under Warranty?

I would take this up with the manufacturers again. You should describe your difficulty to them and ask them for a solution. It is not enough for them to check the laptop with Microsoft Windows and declare it alright now. It is another thing to successfully load a Linux Kernel.

Experimentally, I might try moving away from Ubuntu and its derivatives. Try Manjaro?

I had a look at a couple threads on this forum, I didn't find what I should do with this. Anyway I have no trouble with Wifi when the system runs in safe graphics mode

and put this in the /etc/defaut/grub file (and updated)

They only guarantee Windows compatibility although Linux SHOULD work with this computer so Iunfortunately I cannot expect any more from them...

tried this and... it worked !! Both ! Unfortunately, I'm afraid it is a little too far from what I'm used to be a real solution, feels like I have to start almost all over again...

But probably it gives a hint about what's going on ?

So I installed back Ubuntu 20.04.3 in safe graphics mode.

Summary : what is working so far :
- Ubuntu 20.04.3 in safe graphics or with nomodeset (but display very slow)
- Ubuntu 20.04.3 in "normal" mode if I automatically launch VLC with a video but even slower than safe graphics (this is the workaround I was using before sending it back to the manufacturer, playing a video prevented the system from freezing)
- Manjaro
- MX

Do you have a clearer idea of what's going on ?
