Steam not starting up on LMDE 2

Guys, installed Linux Mint Debian Edition BETA2017, everything is dandy except that Steam won't open.

I downloaded the latest version, any ideas ???

I also am using the MATE rather than Cinnamon, actually tried Cinnamon LMDE 2017 BETA on a live usb stick, same problem.
