I posted recently about the keyboard backlight not working, it turned out that it was a non lit keyboard so I bought a new keyboard with backlight, after fitting it to the machine which is a T480 not T470 as I mistakenly said in my original post, everything except the touchpad pad works. I am running Linux mint mate 21.2. Is it because linux doesn't recognise the hardware?
The touchpad is showing as enabled in Bios, if I select the mouse option in the control panel there is normally two tabs, one for mouse & one for touchpad but I only have the mouse option suggesting that the touchpad isn't even being recognised.
There is also a message on the black screen before the laptop boots into the operating system, something about bios preceded by a long number however it's very small on the screen and really quick so I have not been able to read it.
I have tried updating the kernel from 5.15-087 to 6.5.0-1004 oem but that didn't help either.
Don't know where else to go with this at the moment, for now i'm using a mouse.
Can anyone throw some light on this please.
Thanks.
