Trouble installing windows XP from linux

Can i do sudo cfdisk /dev/sda on pup linux and then write to and delete the partitions to clear the drive. Then do i need to do mkfs /dev/sda to the partitions.
If I understand cfdisk correctly, the partition table and partition scheme remains. The partition table is empty, but is still there. Twice I suggested wiping the partition table and partition scheme so that the Windows XP installer can create a new partition table using the partition scheme that it wants. In other words, take the drive back to "as shipped by the manufacturer."

After you are done installing Windows XP, you can make it dual boot or whatever else you want to do with it. Repeating once again: Do not connect Windows XP to the internet.
